Buying Tips
A Sensible Approach
Before we send money (or valuable parts) to people we don't know for
goods (or payment) we haven't seen there are some basic background steps
we should all take:
- Ask. Do any of your friends know the individual or company? Contacting or joining a club maybe beneficial to you since membership allies normally have honesty and integrity.
- References. Ask the vendor for names of other customers, and of other vendors who know and can vouch for them. Contact your local Chamber of Commerce or Better Business Bureau and ask for a reference for the vendor. If the vendor or individual in not known then check with the local police department.
- Find Out what swap meets they will be attending next. That way you can meet the vendor at the swap meet and check out the items you are interested in before making a decision to purchase.
- Contact Us. We will let you know if there are any complaints involving an advertiser. Please e-mail us at complaints@autoshopclassics.com
- Ad Inquiries. Ask specific questions about the item with open ended questions and avoid the "Yes or No" answers. Don't deal with anyone who can't provide you photos of the item(s) you are interested in or who refuses to show you or your representative the item(s) prior to making payment. Beware of a seller requesting immediate payment or if they request payment to a third party or location.
- Appraiser. When considering large purchases, you should hire someone else to go look at the goods, especially if you can't go to see them yourself. Find a licensed appraiser geographically close to the item or find a club member who can do the job more informally for you. Remember, as a common courtesy you should reimburse expenses to the club member for their services.
- Payment Options. If you are uncomfortable about sending money to an unfamiliar person(s) you could use one of the following escrow services. Service fees may apply. (www.escrow.com and (www.paypal.com)
