If you’re a classic car enthusiast who enjoys a beautiful weekend get-a-way Autoshop Classics highly recommends the Annual Morro Bay Car Show which is held the first weekend in May. This beautiful sleepy oceanside community hosts a fantastic car show for both the classic car owner and spectator a like. Morro Bay is located only 12 miles northwest of San Luis Obispo, California and is definitely worth the short drive up the inland valley of rolling foothills and volcanic mountain peaks. As if time stood still Morro Bay is one of the best kept secrets of the California Central Coast.
You’ll enjoy ridding on a trolley to and from various points of interest throughout the city once you’ve arrived. Visitors can also take leisurely strolls along the white sandy beaches, eat at a waterfront café, shop for antiques, ride in a glass bottom boat, go deep sea fishing, surf or play a round of golf over looking the harbor’s estuary. State Park facilities are also available for camping near the ocean or nestled in a small pine forest next to the natural history museum. Or perhaps a short drive to nearby Montana de Oro State Park is in order so you can take a nice hike along the ocean side cliffs and then pick nick at a small beach cove at sunset.
While Morro Bay is filled with fun and exciting things to do or see it’s the Morro Bay Car Show which attracts over 500 classic entries each year. All entrants receive lots of goodies for showing their classics like a collectible t-shirt, ocean diner cruse, BBQ lunch and plenty of discount coupons from local merchants. Friday night’s main attraction is the cruz’n which travels several city blocks in a circular fashion. Saturday is the car show and the main streets are lined with hundreds of classics while oldies music plays in the background as spectators stroll past each vehicle. Sunday is awards day and trophies can take as much as an hour or so to be completely handed out.
Over 250 trophies are awarded by sponsoring businesses and local residents in this open class event. Autoshop Classics is a major sponsor for the Morro Bay Car Show and gives out its own award each year. Our winner is photographed, interviewed and featured on our website in appreciation for the vehicle and builder’s accomplishment.
The Morro Bay Car Show is by all means a MUST SEE event and we look forward to seeing you there. So, come on out and play by the sea.
